Cousinpalooza 2008
My mom & sister came for a visit today and brought my niece and two nephews. I don't get to see them very often, so it was a really nice treat. When my mom told me she really wanted a picture of all seven of her grandchildren in one photo, I think my reply was something really nice like "yeah, I'd like to live in that world."
My snarky response stemmed from my many failed attempts at getting a photograph of my four children together. When you mix twin 2 year olds with a 5 year old drama princess and a reluctant, impatient 8 year old boy, and I am playing both the roll of photographer and mom... forget it. It really, really is not going to happen. It's my everest... my holy grail.
Now throw into the mix a 9 year old boy, a 6 year old girl, and a 3 year old boy who have been in the car for 7 or 8 hours and haven't seen their cousins in over a year...
Yeah... that should be no problem.
What is my favorite part of this photograph? Where to begin...
Could it be the complete lack of any kind of coordinated clothing? The fact that the only kids actually looking at the camera look completely miserable? Could it be Katie and Whitney's wrinkled princess costumes? Sam screaming as he runs away? My mom's arms holding Jayden in the frame? Maybe it's Alex's obvious lack of patience with the entire experience? Dilon's hat blending into the background, making him look like he has the world's tiniest skull?
No, it's Ben, with his completely heartbroken expression and one pathetic little untied shoelace.
Believe it or not, it's the best one from the session. Everyone is actually in the frame and facing roughly the right direction.
I love this photograph. I absolutely love it.
Here you go, Mom! Is this what you had in mind? Which would you like; a purse, a locket, or a 20x30 canvas wall portrait made from this image? Take your time, let me know when you decide...
I love this picture too! How absolutely perfect!

Hilarious! This picture will make a great conversation piece. I think it would be awesome on a purse.

I love it, it shows them just the way they really are. I have 3 granddaughters, after having 4 sons. I would take any picture of those girls. I want everday, I want to capture who they really are. It is perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my Gosh, that just makes me laugh! One of our family Christmas card photo shoots was like that for me...I actually lowered myself to tossing mini marshmellows to my then 2 and 3 year olds each time I snapped a shot! Normally you make it look so easy... :) !!
